While the earlier post mentioned my overall interests and my dissertation, my more speicifc project plan for this RRSI is to develop a systematic way of mapping the interactions of people as described in certain kinds of medieval Arabic books. Ibadis, like other Muslim communities of the medieval centuries, composed works of prosopography that helped define the community and chronicle the history of it and its members. So, I suppose my project explores how to visualize a work of prosopography.
I have datasets of two Ibadi prosopographical works from medieval North Africa that I have been working on mapping with Gephi. These can show relationships in the abstract, but I will need to think about how I can literally 'map' them both in time in space to show how interactions changed over time.
